What can go wrong?
SuperSight Surgery is a safe and effective procedure, but as with any surgery, it carries some potential risks. While most patients achieve excellent vision, it is important to understand possible complications before giving informed consent.
Common and Temporary Effects
- Dry eyes – May cause discomfort but can be managed with artificial tears.
- Glare and halos – Often noticeable at night but usually improve over time.
- Mild inflammation – Typically resolves with prescribed eye drops.
Less Common Risks
- Residual refractive error – Some patients may need glasses for certain tasks.
- Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) – A cloudy membrane may form behind the lens but can be easily treated with a quick laser procedure.
Rare but Serious Complications
- Infection (Endophthalmitis) – Extremely rare but requires urgent treatment if it occurs.
- Retinal detachment – More likely in highly nearsighted patients but still uncommon.
- Intraocular lens dislocation – May require repositioning or replacement.
