Q & A : Will you recommend SuperSight Surgery for those patients between 50 and 60 years of age who request LASIK for their refractive error? article

Will you recommend SuperSight Surgery for those patients between 50 and 60 years of age who request LASIK for their refractive error?

We rarely perform LASIK as a primary procedure on patients older than 55.
We will discuss the possibility of restored near vision with all presbyopic 45 to 55year old patients who come in asking about LASIK.
Along with potential risks and benefits, the consultation process mandates speaking with patients about alternatives and is one of the intrinsic basic concepts that physicians have an obligation to present to patients.
If ophthalmologists do not tell patients about the alternatives, they are not doing their jobs as physicians and giving patients all the options.
Many patients were unfamiliar with new kind of lens technology, and most walk out having decided that they really want SuperSight Surgery, which will give them more than they had hoped for LASIK alone.
We do not have an exact age cut-off, but the closer the patient gets to having cataracts, the more logical it is to perform SuperSight Surgery.
Another issue that we are facing is at the point if their insurance may cover the surgery.

If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.
